Stuttgart's new sports car in the SUV has been given the name Macan, derived from the Indonesian word for tiger. The name will reflect the core characteristics of the new off-road car.
The Macan is the fifth car in the Porsche model, and Porsche intends to emulate the success of the class leading Cayenne. The new SUV will roll off production lines in Leipzig in 2013. To that end, the site is being expanded into a full-fledged production plant - a 500 million euro investment, making it one of the biggest building projects in Porsche's corporate history and creating 1,000 new jobs here.
As of yet, only a sketch has been released to whet the motoring world's appetite. Stay tuned for more updates.
