Autogridz will be bringing to you coverage and the progress status leading up to the event, so stay tuned! Here’s a little write-up which we have for the inaugural JPM Berjaya Hills Time Challenge 2009 together with eye candies from the event last year.
JPM Berjaya Hills Time Challenge 2009 Malaysia has rarely ever been associated with recognised hill-climb race events bar the few that were held up until the 1970’s; however, the year 2009 changed all that. Founded by a gentleman known to many of his acquaintances as JP Chin, the inaugural JPM Berjaya Hills Time Challenge 2009 represented the first time a hill-climb challenge had been held in South East Asia for the last 30 years, Malaysia’s role as host venue made it all the more significant. As its name suggests, the event was held at the Berjaya Hills – Colmar Tropicale Resort in Bukit Tinggi to be exact, from the 9th – 11th October 2009 and was graced by what was arguably 2009’s largest gathering of performance cars, both modern and classic in Malaysia that included Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Porsches and a host of other performance cars as well as rare classics. The sights and sounds created an atmosphere that seemed like something out of a Gran Turismo intro video! Participants competed in a “Handicapped Time Attack”, with pre-determined time targets set for drivers based on their own individual capabilities. Unlike most Time Attack events, participants didn’t compete with rivals to post the best lap times. Instead, each driver attempted to beat their own individual target times which resulted in a very safe, social yet challenging experience. Alternatively, participants also had the option to participate in a slalom competition titled the Forest-One Time Attack.
