To most of us petrolheads, the prospect of owning a super car is often a vague destination that we crawl seemingly forever towards. To even more, it is but a complete dream. Then there are those who, with keen eye for making moolah, successfully obtain that Ferrari they’ve set their sights on. And then there are an elite few, to whom the sound of a Lamborghini, Aston Martin, or Ferrari is a norm, who go even further with their unwavering passion for automobiles and utilize their position to make a difference in the automotive industry.

We’ve had the honour and privilege of getting acquainted with one such individual, who goes by the name of Mr.Chin Jit Pyng, or more casually; JP. And if that name doesn’t ring a bell to you, make sure it does in the future once you’re done spending your 5 minutes reading this article. Because without him, the Malaysian automotive scene wouldn’t have JPM Motorsport – and that would be blasphemous considering the contribution the organisation has made to the automotive industry, domestically and internationally.

JPM Motorsport was originally formed in 1998 as a jet ski racing outfit, which actually had its fair share of success, bagging championship wins in the Asia Pacific King’s Cup Thailand and the Malaysian Jet Endurance Challenge. JP then turned the organisation’s attention to the streets, and on their “to do list” was to participate in the JUGRA Challenge Super Saloon, the AFOS Proton G1 Race, The Malaysian Super Car Series, the JPM Integra Cup and the prestigious MME races - all of which was of course achieved.

Their mission?
To make motorsports accessible to anyone who has the passion for it by creating opportunities and proper platforms, which in turn, fuels their 2nd mission, which is to build an active and dynamic motorsports lifestyle community without any form of discrimination through various events, and ultimately, to become an industry leader through their active participation and unique conceptualization of all things motorsport.

Unlike many organisations, JPM Motorsport have already proved that their Mission isn’t just a string of words found in a Company Profile. The team’s talent, passion and enthusiasm is evident in everything they get their hands on - They emerged with an overall victory in the 2003 MME (collaborating with Team G-1 and Meritus), and formed the highly rated Team G-1 Symphony which made numerous podium appearances throughout the 2004 & 2005 MME season. Team G-1 later evolved to become JPM Motorsport in the 2006 & 2007 MME and again, managed to be podium regulars. They further cemented their reputation in the world of motorsports by organizing the biggest one make series in the region: The JPM Integra Cup. And in 2009, JPM Motorsport hosted the inaugural JPM Berjaya Hills Time Challenge 2009, a huge milestone in their history, not to mention that it was also a tremendously successful one. The latest event under their belt is the JPM Super Drive Challenge 2010 in Kota Bharu which was conceived to facilitate an entry level platform to enable wider and easier participation into prestigious saloon car racing for amateurs and semi-professional racing enthusiasts, in a quest to prepare them for major motorsport events internationally, like the ATCS, Porsche Carrera Cup, Macau GP, WTCC etc.

Safe to say then, that they’ve done their fair share for motorsports.

If their brief but illustrious track record is anything to go by, there will be much to look forward to from JPM Motorsport. And having met him, there is not a single doubt in our heads that JP will keep JPM Motorsport moving forward at full throttle.
